Environmental Stewardship

Operating with an environmental conscience

Natural gas and oil extraction leaves an unavoidable footprint on the environment. At PDC Energy, the goal is to make that footprint as small as possible.

Setting high standards for environmental mitigation and remediation begins at the top, with the Board and Executive Leadership Team. These standards are expressed as policies developed by PDC Energy's internal Environmental Health and Safety ("EHS") Department.  The Company's EHS Team communicates the standards of operations, policies, and goals throughout the organization via an EHS Manual, on-going training, award programs, and development of safe work procedures.

Since much of PDC Energy's success depends on the valued services provided by contractors, the Company has also established a Contractor EHS Expectations Manual.  The purpose of the manual is to consistently and formally convey PDC Energy's expectations (i.e. Best Management Practices) to contractors providing services on its leases.

PDC Energy's environmental policies are reflected in all areas of operations. Examples include:

  • Multi-well pads
  • Water management reuse and recycling
  • Stormwater management
  • Air emissions management
  • Green completions
  • Recycling of expired or outdated equipment
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ("LEED") recycling at PDC Energy headquarters

The Company works diligently not only to meet an increasing number of federal, state and local regulations, but also to anticipate and prepare for evolving regulations. PDC Energy is a member of the National Environmental Health Association and other local and regional environmental organizations.
